What kind of democracy is it when a President can defy Congressional approval of aid to a county and hold that aid hostage until the country agrees to announcing an investigation on the family member of his political opponent for personal gain in an upcoming election. These according to Dershowitz are not impeachable offences. Alan Dershowitz quotes H.L. Mencken’s warning that in dealing with tyranny warned that “[t]he trouble about fighting for human freedom is that you have to spend much of your life defending sons of b[#]tches: for oppressive laws are always aimed at them originally, and oppression must be stopped in the beginning if it is to be stopped at all. History demonstrates that the first casualty of hyper-partisan politics is often civil liberties.” Alan Dershowitz. 2017.
